Todd Helton in a Red Sox uniform? The teams are talking according to the rumor mill, and Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe likes the idea. Adding Helton to a lineup that already boasts Ortiz, Ramirez and J.D. Drew would get the attention of AL pitchers, that's for sure. ... (more)

News sources and blogs today are anticipating a press conference from the Red Sox to formally welcome J.D. Drew to Boston. Only according to Red Sox Chick, Drew is not expected to attend the proceedings. That fact was also published today in the Boston Globe. But the real question is, will Drew stay healthy in a Red Sox uniform? How many games each season will he play? How many days will he spend on the DL? ... (more)

She puts it as plainly as possible. And logically too. One of the world's great admirers of Bernie Williams, the female blogger known as Yankees Chick, says though she loves him, Bernie has no real place in the Bronx this summer. As detailed in Leading Off, the Yankees have all the outfielders the team needs. So the lovable, heroic, guitar-strumming Williams must go. ... (more)

The confirmation by Francisco Liriano today that he won't throw off a mound till October officially leaves the Twins with a weakened rotation. With Liriano, the Twins are a team to reckon with. Without him, the Twins are mediocre. The blog Twins Nation knows this and author Kris Richardson tells his readers like it is. "Twins now have two fat 6+ ERA pitchers." ... (more)

The Cardinals' historic hometown newspaper does a great job covering the World Series champs every day of the week. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has a crew of reporters with intimate access to the team, which helps them dig deep into players' personalities. The Redbirds biggest star, Albert Pujols, has had an erratic relationship with the national media. Currently, though, with his charitable foundation in the news, the Cards' multi-talented first baseman is enjoying a renaissance of positive press. ... (more)

The majority of Giants' fans appear to reject Barry
Bonds' latest alibi that his positive "speed" test came from a substance he found in his teammate's locker. More to the point, in terms of payroll, they would rather see the team let Bonds go and spend money on other (less expensive) free agents. The Splash is a worthy San Francisco Chronicle blog which helps fans speak their mind. ... (more)

Over 16 major league years, Cal Ripken, Jr. played in 2.632 straight games, a record, in my opinion, that will never be broken. He was a phenomenal 19-time All Star (all for the Baltimore Orioles) and punched out 3,184 hits during his career. Ushering in a new era of big, power-hitting shortstops, Cal pounded 431 home runs, 603 doubles and 1695 RBI. His career slugging percentage was .436. ... (more)
