Phillies' bloggers posted their opinions after the huge trade that sent Bobby Abreu to the Yankees. The Good Phight is upfront with a headline that speaks for many of Philadelphia's fans. This story drew 48 blistering comments. Beer Leaguer chimed in with direct quotes from Phillies' GM Pat Gillick on the controversial trade. 109 readers took time to express their opinions. Phillies Nation sums up Abreu's loss in terse tones, "you're insane if you think the Phillies won't miss him...." The post drew double-digit fan responses.

Writers who follow first-place teams like the Red Sox, Mets and Tigers don't have all the fun. Brewers' bloggers have a lot to talk about with the big Carlos Lee trade and their timely win last night in Milwaukee. Jeff Sackmann pens Brew Crew Ball, and he, like his many readers, aren't sure about the new infield's makeup. Likewise, David Hannes in Brewers Bar batted around ideas for the Brew Crew's new offensive order. Scanning last night's box score, he made a good call penciling in Prince Fielder in the third spot as opposed to clean-up. Turns out, that's the way Ned Yost saw it, too.

The pain of the Chicago Cubs' 2006 season is shared by some of the best bloggers in the business. Last night's victory was sweet, rare and most of all—not easy. That truth is seized by The View from the Bleachers, a blog penned by five avid Cubs fans, led by Joe Aiello. 1060west is sharp-witted, satirical and very funny, a tribute to its team of diligent writers. Talented Al, author of Bleed Cubbie Blue, also celebrates Thursday's unusual win. Al has every right. After all, he was at Wrigley Field in person, cheering on his favorite team.

Following their first-place Friars in the most faithful way possible are a trio of devoted blogs. San  Diego  Spotlight by Rich Campbell cheered the news of Jake Peavy's big game yesterday against the Dodgers. Jbox and Dex pen Gaslamp Ball, a blog fired with good humor and old-fashioned partisan zeal. Friar Faithful's last post roasted Jake Peavy, but author Richard Wade should be happier this morning after the Padres' pticher whupped the Dodgers on the mound and at the plate.

A red, white and blue All-American baseball town with a rich history, Cincinnati has its share of avid bloggers. Two in the forefront are Reds (and Blues) by JP McIntyre and "Doc" Scott Slonaker. The guys tell it like it is, the good, the bad, the reds (and the blues). Redleg Nation is a big profile blog read by hundreds of rabid Redlegs' fans. Founded by Chad and written by a group of six, the Nation keeps readers up to date on minor league notes, depth charts and roster salaries. Both sites share Aaron Harang's latest fine performance.

As you would expect, the NY Yankees are follwed by a host of bloggers. Three good ones are Off the Facade by Benjamin Kabak, an MVN blog that gives thumbs up to the Yanks' fill-in leadoff, Melky Cabrera. WasWatching.com, a new thread from Steve Lombardi agrees, saying, "The Melk Man Delivers." Canyon of Heroes is a cool blog coming at you all the way from Japan. Ex-pat Mike Plugh does the honors, including a recent in-depth review of the AL East.

The Seattle Mariners boast triple-threat blog coverage in the great Northwest. First up to bat is Mariners Mania by Ty Bramlet. Ty saw his team win in person Sunday at Safeco, out-cheering a horde of Red Sox fans in doing so. USS Mariner by Dave Cameron draws comments in the hundreds, giving its loyal Ms fans a daily dose of fun facts and humor. Lookout Landing by Jeff mixes game charts with salty opinion. Jeff knows, "it's late July and the Mariners actually have the chance to do something."

A trio of newly discovered Red Sox blogs are in the spotlight today. Red Sox Chick is passionate and outspoken about her team, in fact she refers to the Sox as "we." Look for her sassy live game blogs. Randy Booth and Tom Leach pen Over the Monster, a blog that's packed with facts and always tells it like it is. Last but not least, Dirty Watah by Matt is a clean, good-looking black & red site with a fresh, witty style. Check 'em out!

As the Houston Astros strive to break .500 and stay in the wild card race, two hometown bloggers track the team's exploits. Crawfish Boxes by "Rastronomicals" notes that the Astros' fate probably doesn't lie in the arms of its pitchers. At least not the starters. As ususal, Houston struggles at the plate, a fact of life understood by Lisa Gray of The Dugout, a stat-filled, cheerful blog that backs the Astros tenaciously.

After the All-Star break, when you're in last place, it's hard to stay focused. Give credit to a pair of Washington Nationals bloggers who post thoughtful entries about their team, regardless of last night's game score. Fittingly, Capitol Punishment by Chris Needham writes today about Alfonso Soriano and the fast-coming trade deadline. In contrast, the always-witty Ball Wonk does a hilarious Communist-inspired satire on newly acquired Austin Kearns lack of offense. Enjoy!

The Angels' rise in fortune has been tracked with pleasure by a pair of happy West Coast bloggers. Halo Herald by Richard Nickerson follows the Halos with insight and wit, saying about their current surge, "this team is playing some serious kick-ass baseball." Rev Halofan is religiously reliable in his daily posts, celebrating with glee the Angels recent run in Halos Heaven. After Monday's win, the Rev's also celebrating unclehood...his brother and wife yesterday welcomed triplets to the world!

It can't be easy writing about a team with a losing record like the Kansas City Royals. Yet, a quartet of bloggers does excellent work working with the second worst record in baseball. The Daily Lancer by Dave the Weatherman, Kauffman Confidential by Bill Heeter, Royals Review by Royals Nightly, an anonymous grad student in Iowa, and Royals Authority by Craig Brown and Clark Foster. Give these gentlemen credit for staying on the front lines under heavy fire.

The Atlanta Braves could be creeping back into the NL East race, that is, if the New York Mets ever lose a couple of games. The Braves are back in second place (though still double digits behind the big, bad Metropolitans). Covering the Braves like a blanket is Talkiing Chop written by Martin Gandy. Martin, frustrated like all Atlanta fans, vents a bit today about the Braves' pitching (or lack thereof). Yesterday, Talking Chop took readers into the Braves locker room for an exclusive Andruw Jones interview.

Taking the news hard for Redleg fans all over the world is Chad, founder of the dedicated blog, Redleg Nation. His news of the trade sending Kearns and Lopez to the Washington Nationals for three relievers and a pair of infielders drew 76 (mostly negative) comments. Joining in on the reporting of this major post-All-Star trade is Red Reporter, penned by Kyle and JD Arney. Red Reporter recently held a special roundtable session with several Cincinnati Reds' bloggers. Their reporting of the big Reds-Nats trade generated a whopping 164 comments.

Balls, Sticks and Stuff is a unique blog in the sense that it covers all of baseball, but at its heart is Phillies' blog. Phillies fans have had a tough season, but had a lot to cheer about last night, as their second-year first-baseman, Ryan Howard, captured Home Run Derby honors. He did it in big style too, splashing several into Pittsburgh's legendary Allegheny River. The Phillies, however, will start the second half of the season with double-digit deficit behind the New York Mets in the NL East.

A quartet of Dodgers blogs covers the team from Chavez Ravine in lively style. John Hill pens the MVN blog, Dodger Hill all the way from Arkansas. Once a Dodger fan, ever a Dodger fan. Closer to home, Dodgers Thoughts by professional writer Jon Weisman is the granddaddy of Dodgers blogs...running true since 2002, and a thoughtful thread at that. Brothers Andrew and Brian Kamenetzky write a spirited, topical blog for the LA Times titled Blue Notes. Last but not least, the reliable Dem Bums by Charlie Baker posts animated rundowns of Dodger games on a regular basis. Check 'em out!

Out on the West Coast, Baseball Girl does a great job writing about Northern California's other baseball team, the Oakland A's. The Athletics just took two of three from the high-flying Detroit Tigers, and Athletics Nation punches up 60 to 90 comments for every entry. Not bad at all in the competitive world of baseball blogging. We wish Baseball Girl a world of luck as the A's battle for supremacy in the wild and wooly AL West.

Helping Indians fans everywhere celebrate George Steinbrenner's birthday are a pair of Cleveland blogs, Teepee Talk and Tribe Report. Teepee Talk, penned by devoted Indians' fan Mark, is a well-designed blog with lots of white space infused with relevant facts. The writing duties for Tribe Report are shared by Colin Lohse and Rick Lopez, two Cleveland fans who keep the faith and urge you to vote—and vote soon—for Travis Hafner for the AL All-Star team. They're joined by DiaTribe (featured here before) and Let's Go Tribe in urging fans to vote for "Pronk."

Yes, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are in last place in the AL East. But they do have a winning record at home; and the Rays' lineup boasts many young, talented players who are fun to watch. Having fun following their team this season are the dedicated bloggers of DRays Bay. A quartet of talented writers keeps DRays Bay on track. Tyler, Jacob, David, and Patrick salute All-Star Scott Kazmir but lament the truth that Carl Crawford should be an All-Star too. Rays of Light, penned by Joe Aiello, is another reliable Rays' blog...a visually pleasing and enthusiastic thread.

Doing a great job following the Mariners are two spot-on blogs that keep Seattle fans up-to-date. First up, Caffeinated Confines is a well-written thread currently taking M's manager Mike Hargrove to task for his moves in yesterday's loss to the Rockies. Rick Michels is the primary pen in this MVN blog. It just so happens that another Mariners' blog, Lookout Landing by Jeff, sees the situation similarly. About Hargrove's selecting the wrong pinch-hitter late in the game, Jeff says, bluntly, "I hate blaming the manager for outcomes, but I can't help it here. Mike Hargrove sucks."
