Carson and Corey make the most of being "armchair GMs" as they follow the Philadelphia Phillies in their funny, imaginative blog, We Should be GM's.
Bug Zapping refers to their team's chance to sweep the "gNats" series
tonight—a win that could propel them into the NL Wild Card lead.
Another popular Phillies blog, The Good Phight, targets a key
ingredient of the team's success this season. According to co-author
David Cohen, it's all about the long ball (often courtesy of MVP candidate Ryan Howard).

Athletics Nation claims its spot atop Oakland A's blogs with daily posts that are always topical with a freshly seasoned perspective. Blez is ably assisted by Baseball Girl
who does a great job today of translating baseball managing into
kindergarten terms. The A's are riding a hot streak in August, and Catfish Stew by Ken Arneson
continues to stir the pot with rich stats and a dash of wit. If you
sometimes feel overstuffed by mainstream media, check out these tasty
blogs.

While no one was looking, the Florida Marlins suddenly showed up as legitimate contenders in the NL wild card fight. Now just two games back of Cincinnati, the Fish have been followed game by game, through thick and thin by FishStripes, a blog penned by Craig.
Can the Marlins keep up their run and spear a spot in postseason play?
One thing's for sure. Their wild-card pedigree is second to none. Tune
in to FishStripes the rest of the way to find out.

On the Rox is a Colorado Rockies blog which strives to look at the bright side of trouble. In fact, author Daniel Boniface's
slogan for the thread is, "where the glass is always half full." Yet,
it seems the Rockies are cellar-dwellers once again, so Boniface is
threatening to bring his Best Last-Place Team in Baseball sign to Coors Field. An old favorite of ours, Purple Row by Rox Girl
knows last (or first) place is never a sure thing in the wild NL West.
Even so, this witty, well-read blog has begun looking hard at potential
off-season moves for the Rockies.

The Cincinnati Reds began a crucial 10-game road trip last night with a classic comeback win over the San Francisco Giants. JD Arney of Red Reporter keys in his thoughts daily in what has become the most exciting Redlegs' season in a long time. Right now, Cincinnati has a legitimate shot at both the NL Central crown and the wild-card spot. About Thursday's thrilling victory, Arney says, "tonight's game felt like game 7 of the World Series...I'm not sure I've ever had this much fun in a Reds pennant race...."

The author of South Side Sox
is a sharp young man nicknamed The Cheat. His insightful posts often pull 100 to 300 comments. The Cheat
understands the importance of starting pitching...he notes that Freddy Garcia needed a ton of runs and nearly four innings of strong relief to
get the win last night in Detroit. Unbiased as well as astute, The Cheat takes time to give Tigers' manager Jim Leyland his due, especially for his savvy pitching moves. He contrasts Ozzie Guillen's reluctance to pull pitchers, which he contends "cost the Sox some games" this season.

After the so-called "Boston Massacre" at the hands of the hated Yankees this weekend, Red Sox fans are in the throes of despair. Now the BoSox lose a tough game to Anaheim on the West Coast. Tom Leach of Over the Monster
tells his legions of fans "it's time to stop the whining... this is
baseball. You win some. You lose some. You get over it." Enjoying a
different seat on baseball's emotional train are Halos Heaven fans, now riding a five-game win streak. As usual, Anaheim is battling for the AL West crown. Writer Rev Halofan called last night's win over Boston, "easily the best game I have attended all year."

Fresh from a honeymoon in Hawaii, Grant of McCovey Chronicles
puts his signature on one of the best blogs in baseball. Needless to
say, this has been a tough year for San Francisco Giants' fans. But
with Bonds' bat heating up and superlative starting pitching such as Noah Lowry exhibited last night, perhaps there is still hope. Being a wise
writer (and jilted fan), Grant sidesteps the chance to speculate about
the Giants' postseason prospects. Instead, he looks to the future,
praising the team's signing of Angel Villalona.... (more)

The Phillies are still in the NL wild card race thanks to a big win over the Nationals Sunday. Starting today, Philadelphia's critical series against the Cubs will be scrutinized closely by a pair of popular bloggers. Jason Weitzel's Beer Leaguer
is a fun blog, always quenching fans' thirst for facts, trivia and
alternative viewpoints about the Phils. Also reporting the upcoming
Cubs series with care and insight is The Good Phight,
a thread penned by a team of die-hard Philadelphia fans. The Good
Phight's opinionated posts often top the Baseball Nooz blog roll.

A leading Houston blog, Crawfish Boxes, celebrates the end of the Astros' five-game losing streak in appropriately muted style. After all, the wild-card race is slipping away for teams like Houston, Milwaukee and Atlanta. The author of Crawfish Boxes, Rastronomicals, reluctantly gives outfielder Luke Scott credit as game hero in yesterday's victory. Rastronomicals is a loyal fan not only of the Houston Astros, but also of science fiction. As he puts it, music and reading are interests to turn to as, "things that are holding my attention more than the Astros these days as the season goes down the drain."

The Orioles arguably have the best pitching coach in baseball (Leo Mazzone), and young arms on the rise like Adam Loewen. That gives Baltimore bloggers such as Mike Boehm hope, even in a frustrating season like '06. His Oriole Magic lauds efforts by Loewen and Erik Bedard against the powerful Yankee lineup. Camden Chat by SC also paints an intelligent picture of the Orioles current state. SC spices up the thread with a dash of wiffle ball nostalgia and more serious philosophy about Baltimore's owner, the un-beloved Peter Angelos.

Among a flock of St. Louis Cardinals' blogs, Viva El Birdos flies high with redbird fans, often attracting 200 comments per post. L. Boros leads the way with a witty pen, optimistic outlook, and steadfast reporting of relevant statistics. Like a lot of us, L. Boros is taking an August vactaion, handing El Birdos writing duties to Valatan, who's holding down the fort in fine style. After last night's stellar outing by Chris Carpenter, Valatan contends the Cards' big right-hander is playing his way back into the Cy Young race.

To no surprise, NL East-leading New York Mets have a blog following second-to-none. Two of the best are Mike's Mets and Amazin' Avenue. Giving his team's sweep of the Padres a top-to-bottom analysis is Mike S. of Mike's Mets. His site is packed with good stats and opinion. Just down the blog street, Amazin' Avenue boasts lots of fan traffic and comments. Its main author, Eric Simon, puts his heart into every story. Right now, his heart is elsewhere, because he happens to be getting married in Hawaii.

When Royals' boggers have a chance to cheer, they do it proudly. Who can
blame them? Royals Review celebrates Kansas City's second in a

caption, and three short sentences. The caption? "Don't mess
with the Royals at home." At Royals Authority, Craig Brown and Clark Fosler actually praise Royals' manager Buddy Bell
and his moves agains Boston. But then Craig takes the skipper to task

The popular Oakland A's blog, Athletics Nation, praises the team's defense after the A's big win last night over Texas. Author Blez
thinks it's all the little things that count. He believes good defense,
solid bullpen pitching and timely hitting are the ticket to an AL West
crown. Across the blog street, Ken Arneson pens Catfish Stew. Ken also alludes to Oakland's superb defense, particulary the A's fine third-baseman, Eric Chavez. But he also takes time for some very witty political commentary.
