You needn't be a Mets fan to enjoy the humor of Metstradamus' End of Season Quiz. Take time to take the 25-question multiple choice test and treat yourself to a  grand-slam serving of grins and chuckles. Metstradamus is one of the more entertaining blogs in the baseball universe and this World Series wrap-up is a great way to take the sting out of the season's last at-bat, last out, last game.

Curtis Granderson's slip in the outfield brought back memories of Curt Flood's miscue in 1968 and helped the Cardinals beat the Tigers 5-4 in Game 4 of the World Series. But Ken Rosenthal says Detroit's title hopes are slipping away for many reasons. Two very good Tigers' blogs tell it like it is this morning in the wake of a huge Game 4 loss by Detroit. Always presenting all opinions on a given game, Detroit Tigers Weblog by Bill Ferris posts links to other Tigers blogs, Cardinals blogs and newspaper coverage from both St. Louis and Detroit. However you slice it, this was a tough loss. That's a theme picked up by Tiger Tales, a well-written blog from a tried-and-true Tigers' fan who lives in Massachusetts. Lee Panas writes, "The Tigers continued to play sloppy ball today in an excruciating 5-4 loss...."

In a World Series, rain affects pitching more than anything. The leading Cardinals blog, Viva El Birdos, serves up all the options for the next few days. Rain in St. Louis. Possible snow in Detroit. Bring Carpenter back on three days rest? Or go with well-rested Weaver and Reyes? Then,  if the bad weather persists, Viva El Birdos sees it this way, "'nother rainout tonight, and we can run this exercise again tomorrow, and since it's likely to snow in detroit this weekend . . . maybe carp can just pitch every game."... PhotoAT Hooks pens a blog titled Cardinals Diaspora, a witty, wacky wild ride for St. Louis fans. For Game 3 Hooks cooks up a politically incorrect, play-by-play diary for the amusement of his readers. It's a hoot and a half, sporting swipes at Busch Stadium celebrities, pre-game ceremonies, foul ball-groping fans and country superstar singers. But in the end, it's all about Hall of Fame caliber pitching by Chris Carpenter. Baseball blogging should be fun, and Cardinals Diaspora keeps the faith.

PhotoThey're calling it Dirtgate...the nationwide debate about the substance on Kenny Rogers's throwing palm in Detroit's win over St. Louis Sunday night. But Diamondhacks, being the intrepid and sassy blog it is, concludes that it really doesn't matter. Whatever Roger's had in the first inning, it was removed for the next seven. And he still mowed down Cardinal after Cardinal. That's a fact Diamondhacks author Matt and St. Louis manager Tony La Russa agree upon.

PhotoNate Robertson praises fellow starter Kenny Rogers this morning for a dominant two-hit masterpiece that brings the Tigers even with the Cards at one game each. Nate Robertson's Gum Time is the only active player's blog you can count on for a daily perspective. Nate really does write it himself and that makes it a true inside-the-park read. About his start tomorrow night, Nate says, "Now, my start is basically Game 1 of a five-game series....It's going to be a tough game. We've got a Cy Young winner on the other end of the lineup card."

CardNilly is penned by Cardinals' fanatic Scott who admits to being superstitious like most in the world of baseball. To help the Cards win in the playoffs, Scott has taken to eating double servings of Big Macs for lunch. The Big Mac attack worked in the division series...delivering a Cardinal win after every McDonald's stuffing. Well, last night the Big Macs luncheon delivered big time as St. Louis clinched a seat for the World Series, a table set only for two. Though happy about the Mac plan working, Scott says, "I’ve consumed too many of those damned sammiches over the last week to feel at all good about my long term health prospects..."

Totally unique in all of blogdom is Archie Bunker's Army, a thread authored by a Dutch New Yorker now living in England. Jaap Stijl is as fanatical as the next Mets fan (maybe more so), but his Euro-spiced perspective is unique, perhaps a touch exotic. But the coolest part of Archie Bunker's Army is the sly humor adorned with unexpected photos and drawings. You might see a beautiful, scantily-clad female, historic artwork, wall graffiti, a (scantily-clad) cartoon or a chimp brandishing a revolver. Best of all, every graphic relates to Jaap's hilarious narrative.

PhotoTonight is a big night for Cardinals bloggers as St. Louis sends its MVP-quality ace Chris Carpenter to the mound in Shea Stadium to face the Mets' rookie John Maine. For today, though, high-spirited Cardinals Diaspora basks in the sunshine of a Game 5 victory, taking time to salute the clutch pitching of last night's winner, Jeff Weaver. In fact, author A T Hooks lets it all hang out in today's recap recalling the Cards' roller coaster ride to the brink of the World Series. The writing here is bold, irreverent and street-tough. About NLCS, Hooks says, "we might just f*** around and win this thing."

PhotoUnlike Detroit bloggers, Pittsburgh fans didn't have a lot to cheer about this season. So you have to give credit to Buried Treasure, a Pirates blog that's digging in and posting great analysis deep into October. Today author Randy Linville runs down the stats on winners versus losers in terms of rest prior to the World Series start. Since 1969, there were six years when one team waited three or more days to face its opponent in the Fall Classic. The relevant statistic? "The team with the really long lay off won four out of six World Series."

PhotoIt's fun to be a Mets blogger today and one of the most fun threads in the blogosphere is the spirited Metstradamus. The author mixes mysticism with enthusiasm spiked with chutzpah to serve up a very entertaining read. Like all of Metdom this morning, Metstradamus is praising the grit of Carlos Delgado and his five-RBI performance. Delgado has waited his entire career to dance on the postseason stage. As Metstradamus succinctly puts it, "...it's Delgado who is having a playoff series for the ages."

Eric Simon's Mets blog Amazin' Avenue salutes his team's fine defense in their big Game One win in the National League Championship Series...a game it seems like we waited weeks to see. Simon also credits catcher Paul Lo Duca for being an integral key to New York's success. Tonight Lo Duca and the Mets face Cardinals' ace Chris Carpenter. On his alternate site, Mets Geek, Simon lays out stats that show Carpenter is vulnerable to left-handed hitters. Of which the Mets have a bench-full.

PhotoCertainly they're elated in Motown with the Tigers coming home with a 2-0 series lead achieved on the road. But in the Bay Area there is no elation. As Melissa Lockard of Athletic Supporters points out, lack of clutch hitting and pitching kept the A's from building on a lead twice in the early innings. And then, in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and the bases loaded, who else would you want at the plate besides MVP Frank Thomas? Melissa writes, "It had a Hollywood-ending written all over it...I could even see his homerun trot in my mind. But it was not to be...."

Tigers fans who really care about objective reporting in their blog (spiced with lots of opinion) turn to The Detroit Tigers Weblog by Bill Ferris. For a take on ALCS game one, Bill posts what other Tigers bloggers and mainstream media are saying this morning. Then he goes a step further and also displays what Oakland A's bloggers and newspapers have to say. It's more than democratic. It's really fun and informative to get all the angles, all in one compact blog serving. You might be surprised at the violent contrast of the coverage.

My PhotoThe starting pitcher for tonight's AL Championship game happens to have his own blog. Not only does Nate Robertson keep up with "Nate Robertson's Gum Time," he writes it himself. You just can't get more genuine, inside information than this. It's behind-the-scenes, Detroit Tiger-style, at its best. Right now Nate is busy studying the tendencies of Oakland A's batters. About tonight's start, he promises readers, "I'll go out there and make them beat me. I can't beat myself." This is the real deal in blogging.

PhotoA's owner Lewis Wolff wanted a chance to face off against George Steinbrenner's $200 million roster, but is content with home-field advantage. And as Athletics Nation so eloquently states, Detroit vs. Oakland is good for baseball. It's a good story, like the amazing comeback year of the A's Frank Thomas. If Thomas carries the A's into the World Series, he will have deserved the official award, though the White Sox' Jim Thome was named AL Comeback Player of the Year on Saturday. That seems premature seeing that Thomas is still playing.

PhotoSt. Louis fans have a right to brag a bit. After sleepwalking through the last week of the season, the Redbirds have awakened to dominate the Padres in taking a 2-0 NLDS lead. All in the Cards by Scott Humphries is pumped about St. Louis blanking punchless San Diego—again. The fact is, the Cardinals have now won eight playoff games in a row over the Padres. As Scott puts it, "Kinda hard to believe now that ANYONE picked the Padres isn’t it?" But most experts did.

PhotoA trio of rookie pitchers are taking the mound in this young 2006 postseason. Bonser for the Twins, Verlander for the Tigers, and Maine for the Mets. Take the "7" Train celebrates the effort of emergency starter John Maine today, a kid who kept the Dodgers off-balance, keeping his team in the game. Maine gave up just one earned run in 4-1/3 innings. New York's bullpen very nearly blew it with Mota and Wagner giving up four more. About Maine, Take the "7" Train's Kevin Collazo says, "The kid has the makings of an ace."

PhotoDetroit Tigers Weblog takes the democratic approach this morning in reporting his team's Game 1 loss to the powerful Yankees. After a brief lead-in, Bill Ferris shares the stage with a host of bloggers and analysts from both sides of the Yankee-Tiger fence. It's a great way to get a quick, insightful scoop on the action. You hear morning-after opinions from the Detroit Free Press, New York Daily News and other voices. But Bill sums it up well himself: "The Tigers had their chances but weren’t able to capitalize often enough."

PhotoTo the regret of every San Diego blogger, the Padres were swept by the Cardinals in last year's division series. The Friars appear to have the edge this year. In popular Ducksnorts, Geoff Young lays out a detailed position-by-position matchup. About first base and Albert Pujols, he says, "How do you analyze Albert Pujols? He’s the best hitter in baseball. No, wait. He’s the best hitter in baseball and it’s not close...." Dexter Bustarde kicks off Gaslamp Ball with his witty post in a Deadspin link. In the series preview there Dex extols the virtue of the Pads' bullpen. Tongue in cheek, he intones, "Our bullpen is sweet creamery butter."
